Our Story
Crocus Hill Bee Farm is family owned and operated in Holmes County, Ohio. Though their story officially began not very long ago, in the spring of 2020 when Tom was gifted his first hive as a 30th anniversary gift from his wife, Kandi. The adoration and curiosity of honeybees had always been there. Honeybees had always been abundant on the farm that Tom grew up on which is the very same farm that Crocus Hill Bee Farm operates on today. In fact, they were so abundant that it was nearly impossible to avoid them when walking around barefoot through the yard as a young boy.
As time went on, Tom noticed less and less around the farm and in the Northeast Ohio region. The obvious decline of honeybees really sparked Tom’s curiosity to learn more about what is happening to them and prompted him to want to help honeybee populations as much as possible. After all, it is very well known that the environmental impact of the honeybee is huge for agricultural crops and the local economy. What started as one hive has now grown to over 30 bustling beehives from all over the Holmes County area.
Tom has always had a lot of passion for what he does, and would love to give any aspiring beekeeper, large or small, the means to succeed in beginning, maintaining, or growing their bee knowledge and supply.
About our Bees
We are currently placing our focus on Nucs (starter hives) in hopes to help expand interest in honeybee cultivation. We try to keep around 25% of the bees on the farm of Saskatraz variety while the other 75% are wild local caught swarms from the Holmes co. area. Though local caught are not always domesticated they would be considered heartier for our Ohio winters and are known for high honey production and a stronger resistance to mites. Aside from starter hives, Crocus Hill offers honey and other bee related products as well.
